Wow Your Valentine with a Romantic Getaway

If you’re the romantic type then you might have started thinking about Valentine’s Day already. It’s the time of year for injecting that little bit of extra romance into your relationship – but it’s not always an easy one to plan. You’ll find that just about every restaurant in the country will be booked up by the time of the big day, while you’ve also get to come up with more than a few gift ideas to sweeten your other half. It’s not just bouquets of flowers that are important on Valentine’s Day; many people think that going away together is the most important ingredient for injecting romance. Just don't head off on a whim and forget all of your arrangements, like travel insurance. Take a look at AA Travel for travel insurance which can be booked the day before you leave. If you're planning a romantic holiday at any time of year, take a look at this article for some of the best romantic getaway destinations for 2008.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

While Caribbean cruises and stays at any tropical resort are likely to be very romantic, you can’t really beat the islands of French Polynesia and in particular the island of Bora Bora. This extinct volcano juts out of the Pacific Ocean, and is surrounded by a number of islets and a barrier coral reef. It’s been referred to as one of the natural wonders of the world, and while the views from the air are quite spectacular there’s also a glorious underwater kingdom to explore. Many of the hotel resorts feature stilted overwater bungalows which means you’ll be able to wake up and dive straight into the crystal clear waters. See UK Travelzoo to find some cheap flights to Tahiti. You’ll be able to get to Bora Bora from there. Take a look at this website for more on this island paradise.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

When the Association of Independent Tour Operators put together their top list of romantic destinations early in 2007 Dubai scored top. With beautiful weather throughout the winter season and a fantastic array of luxury hotels and restaurants it’s not difficult to see why. Some of the top romantic resorts include the Jumeirah Beach Club Resort and Spa, Al Qasr, and particularly the Burj Al Arab – a self acclaimed seven star hotel. Unless you’ve got a few tens of thousands spare then it will probably be a too little pricey to enjoy one of these top places to stay, but there are plenty of other hotels in the city that are affordable, while it also has the added advantage of being closer to the UK than Bora Bora.

The Lake District, Cumbria, England

A more realistic option for those who don’t have the time or budget to go all out exotic this Valentine’s Day, the Lake District comes as a great choice for many romantic couples, and it’s perfect for a short break in the UK. You’ll want to take a couple of extra layers compared to our other two destinations, and there’s no guarantee of great weather, but what does that matter when you’re wrapped up in your cosy B & B with a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside? If you do venture outside your room you’ll be able to see some of the most stunning landscapes in the United Kingdom, which were a major inspiration for one of our country’s top romantic poets: William Wordsworth.
