Mothers Day Ideas for Sons and Daughters

It’s all too easy to brush off Mother’s Day as some tokenistic fluff made to make us spend our money. But if you think about it,  it’s actually a pretty great idea that we all take a day to say thanks to our wonderful mums. Remember how good you feel when you go back home and see your mum in the kitchen, making a cup of tea. You can smell her perfume, she can tell when something’s wrong.  At any age, a hug from mum makes everything better. So don’t be too cool to get involved; think of some lovely ways to say thank you. It’s not hard. In fact, it’s really quite easy. Here are some basic ideas for both sons and daughters:

Daughters might be attracted to the idea of giving mum a dreamy  Sunday with a classic box set of Romantic DVDs. Inject a bit of tear-jerking fun with some gems like, A Roman Holiday, Casablanca, Some like It Hot, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Plump up the cushions, make her a cup of cocoa and sit down together with a tin of biscuits and a box of tissues. It’s a bit more special getting giggly and sentimental together and chances are you hardly ever get the time to.

Or, if you want to get out and about, the best heart-to-hearts can happen when you’re both being pampered, and in total relaxation mode. A day trip to the Spa is one of many Mothers Day gift ideas that allows you to spend quality time with her, and you get to indulge in all the exotic treatments, healthy Jasmine teas and beauty treats.

This is all a little female-friendly of course, and if you’re a strapping son, sitting in a sauna and crying over old black and white films isn’t the most appealing idea. But here’s a good one: why not get creative and come up with an extra special breakfast hamper, bursting with goodies. Fill it with all sorts of delicacies; some delicious jam, French pastries, some scones and clotted cream.  Maybe some champagne and truffles would help to spice it up. It’s pretty easy to do if you nip down to a posh Food Hall and weigh down a basket with the kinds of things she loves but never buys.

Of course, the best of gestures is the faithful bouquet as a Mothers Day gifts.
